5 Loaves Eatery

Yeah this place is the truth! Lookforbob.com has frequented this black owned business since about 2015, spanning about 10 visits. So yeah, that seems right. There are probably a few occasions a year that brings lookforbob.com to 5 Loaves Eatery. I really can’t say that I know how or why I arrived here the first time but, I do remember getting the Spicy Salmon Croquette Omelette. Lookforbob.com was hooked from there. Now this eatery sits along the same half-mile strip of 75th Street as Soul Vegetarian Cafe, Lem’s BBQ, and Brown Sugar Bakery on the south side of Chicago. So because of all of these eateries and stops, you could literally eat along 75th Street all day. Now, know that you are bit “around the way” when you’re here, but you should feel comfortable.
Now as far as 5 Loaves, this is has been a family run restaurant for over 16 years. 5 Loaves Eatery is quite cozy, there are probably 25 seats, allowing its character as a black owned business to shine. You might see the owner, the husband cooking in the kitchen, and young black brothers and sisters waiting on your table. Truthfully speaking, this may not the most polished dining experience, but the food is off the chain! Okay, what can I really speak for? The aforementioned Spicy Salmon Croquette Omelet is my go to, the pancakes are good (and I’m funny about my pancakes), name your own omelettes (NYOO) and skillets (NYOS). I have met others here, I’ve recommended 5 loaves, and now I’m letting you know. Comment below and give 5 Loaves Eatery your rating.

Definitely another winner along 75th Street of the Chatham neighborhood of Chicago, Soul Vegetarian (as I’ve always known it) is food that is surely good enough to forgo the meat – really!
Lookforbob.com has been coming here since around 2005/2006. It’s just one of those places that if you live on the south side, you’re bound to try by happenstance if nothing else. Somebody will inevitably say “wanna meet at Soul Vegetarian?” I’ve always went for the “Protein Bites.” I don’t believe that they are strong protein source, but they are deep fried so that’s a winner with lookforbob.com. When you take a look at their menu (here) you will also see their “Black Eye Pea” burger. It is totally legit! This was a recipe that was hacked at home because it was that good! For nearly 30 years, SV has held it down for the community. Also, there is Eternity Juice Bar located within Soul Vegetarian. Their smoothies are delicious, made to order with combinations such as Eternity Energizer, Seven Heaven, the Third Eye, Detoxification, Boomerang, and many more. You can find their menu here.

A Black Owned Soul Food restaurant that’s doing “just fine.”

Okay…!
Luella’s Kitchen, Chicago
Luella’s Jambalaya

Luella’s Southern Kitchen is one of those awesome restaurants that lookforbob.com has heard nothing but good things about, but has never been. Once while asking about a good place, I said I was going to go to Luella’s. Someone in the industry recommended Chez Delisay (awesome suggestion, since closed). The reason they said was because “Luella’s is doing fine, give this Black owned business a shot.” That about says it all. They’re doing fine because they’re apparently that good. Lookforbob.com will surely make a trip in the very near future. What can we say? Lookforbob.com needs to make it to this “north side” spot located in Lincoln Square.

The menu here looks pretty good. Admittedly, I think it looks like a north side soul food restaurant – clean, crisp, and a little pricey. Founded in 2013.

Sip & Savor Coffee Shops
Locations: Bronzeville (43rd St.), Hyde Park (53rd St.), Matteson, and Rosenwald (47th Street)

What’s really cool about this Black Owned Business, other than the fact that the brother, Trez Pugh III, has now expanded to 4 locations, is that lookforbob.com has been coming here for nearly 15 years. This has been a Bronzeville meeting place for years. Formerly known as Bronzeville Coffee House, it has transitioned into 4 locations. A community pillar, one of the early moments for lookforbob.com at Sip and Savor was for a comedy event held on a summer evening in their outdoor area – a fresh breath for the community with an awesome, professional crowd.

Utilizing a unique approach called Foundational Athletic Stability Training (FAST). It is “a program born in 2005 out of the need for an efficient way to address the strength development and recovery needs of track athletes.” The website seems to back this up as there are plenty of athletes and plenty information about their workout programs. From Individual programs, Group programs, schedules for Kids, they seem to have the bases covered. Here is where you can find their “Training & Rates” page.
